I was brought up in a strict Christian family, where I was expected to go to church 3 times on Sundays and to the prayer meeting every Tuesday night. I never questioned this, as I knew it would be unacceptable to my parents not to go. I always tried hard to listen to the sermon because I knew I would be questioned about it over Sunday lunch!
I had a good knowledge of the Bible, was in the routine of reading it each morning and night, but I did not have a personal relationship with God. In other words I was doing everything to please my parents and it should have been to please God!
THEN... my parents sent me to 'Pioneer Camp', a children's Christian camp, this was most unexpected as no one else from our church was going. I was really enjoying camping, playing sports etc. (not so keen on washing up the porridge pot)... all was going well; I even enjoyed the evening meetings and learnt some great new hymns!
The crunch moment came one evening when at the end of the meeting I remember the leader saying, 'Do you love the Lord Jesus? Do you love Him enough to stand up right now and show others you love Him'?
I knew at that moment that it was time for me to make a decision... I stood up... from that moment onwards I knew the Lord Jesus was in my heart making a difference. I couldn't wait until I got home to tell Mum and Dad, so I wrote them a letter to tell them (Mum still has the letter)!
30 years later... I love the Lord with all my heart, I feel SO privileged to belong to Him, I need Him every minute of every day and He still gives me a buzz! How can you live without Him?
